Peter Wheeler
1934 - 2010

Peter formed PWA in 1981 to bring the skills and techniques of network television and radio experience into the corporate and commercial arenas. For nearly 30 years the company worked in making effective communications available to clients large and small, nationally and internationally.

PWA was recognised for providing one of the most experienced and highly regarded sources of reliable media guidance for those facing television and radio exposure. The company relied heavily upon Peter's many years of industry experience and following his sudden death on May 18th 2010 is no longer able to offer these services.

Thank you to the many clients that used PWA over the years. Since Peter's death we have received many messages of condolence and remembrance via the web site. Click here to read some of the submissions (and/or add your own message).

Peter was unique in his professional approach, his caring attitude and his wicked sense of humour. He is fondly remembered and greatly missed by family, friends, colleagues and clients alike.

Jan Francis / Peter Wheeler

Peter Wheeler was one of the most experienced readers and voice-over artists in British Broadcasting. With a career spanning over 40 years, Peter’s authoritative voice underpinned BBC regional news, current affairs, documentaries and numerous light entertainment programmes. His remarkable ability to deliver a broad range of regional and national accents along with a highly developed skill for producing innovative and technically accurate scripts, made Peter the ideal ‘one stop shop’ for effective media communications.

Peter read the news for BBC Radio 4 in the North of England and for a period of ten years, read the Television news for Granada TV. Also for Granada, he was the senior reader on their network programme, 'What The Papers Say' which ran for many years. This programme called for authoritative and reliable reading, as well as accurate regional and national accents and dialects. Peter also provided the narration for over 850 episodes of the legal series, 'Crown Court' which was shown round the world.

Peter's voice was used by Granada on their flagship political programme 'World in Action' as well as in documentary series such as BBC 'Horizon' and the Radio 4 Arts programme, 'Talkabout'. Many one-off BBC productions were also backed by his voice. He presented a live, three hour Breakfast Show on BBC Radio for over six years and worked in Sport, fronting BBC Radio's 'Plain Sailing' and 'Sports Spotlight'.

Peter was a highly experienced reader of short stories and book serialisations for the BBC.

As a TV presenter, both the BBC and ITV used Peter extensively as their main anchor. He was the senior presenter for BBC2's Executive Business Channel, which ran over a seven-year period and Southern Television's sailing series 'Afloat'. He also fronted several game shows as the Chairman of Granada's 'Junior Criss Cross Quiz', which was an adaptation of the American children's quiz 'Tic Tac Toe'. He devised, wrote and presented 'Full House' for Thames TV and was the Chairman for two years of BBC 2's 'Call My Bluff'.

Alongside his broadcast work Peter voiced literally hundreds of corporate scripts for promotional, training, documentary and educational programmes, as well as the more simple and yet important tasks such as providing recorded announcements to accompany conferences.
